Markavo vs TrademarkEngine vs LegalZoom: All-In Cost Compared
Updated November 4, 2026
Markavo is a trademark law firm, not a trademark filing service. You hire licensed trademark attorneys — people you can read about on our About page — who prepare and file your application, review specimens, and handle USPTO pushback. LegalZoom and Trademark Engine are online platforms that package filing (and related legal work through affiliated counsel). That difference shows up in who you talk to and what you pay when something goes wrong after filing.
If you are shopping for the cheapest trademark registration, compare all-in totals for one U.S. class — service fee, USPTO/government charges, and the likely Statement of Use and Office Action bills — not the teaser package price alone.
Quick answer: filing all-in for one class (2026)
| Provider | Package | Service fee | USPTO / gov line | Other | All-in to file |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trademark Engine | Basic | $49 | $350 USPTO | $100 account setup | $499 |
| Markavo (attorneys) | Basic | $99 | $450 gov fee* | — | $549 |
| Markavo (attorneys) | Standard | $149 | $450 gov fee* | — | $599 |
| Trademark Engine | Standard | $299 | $350 USPTO | $100 setup | $749 |
| Markavo (attorneys) | Attorney Plus | $399 | $450 gov fee* | — | $849 |
| Trademark Engine | Premium | $539 | $350 USPTO | $100 setup | $989 |
| LegalZoom | Attorney-led trademark | $899 | $350 USPTO | — | $1,249 |
*Markavo's government line is $450 per class (fee note below). Sources: Trademark Engine help, Markavo U.S. trademarks, Markavo price list, LegalZoom attorney-led package + USPTO fees. Confirm on each site before you pay.
Takeaway on filing alone: Trademark Engine Basic is the lowest headline total ($499). Markavo Basic is $50 more ($549) — and you work with Markavo trademark attorneys (bios on the About page), not a self-serve filing funnel. LegalZoom's attorney-led path is about 2.3× Markavo Basic.
You work with Markavo attorneys — not a filing portal
Markavo® is a full-service trademark practice. Clients work directly with counsel such as Alondra Andújar, Esq., Pablo Segarra, Esq., and Diego Torres, Esq. Profiles, credentials, and example USPTO filings are on the About page.
That is different from a DIY trademark filing service that sells a package and routes paperwork through an affiliated filing team. With Markavo:
- A U.S. attorney prepares and files your application on every plan (Basic included)
- You can schedule calls with the attorneys named on the About page
- Post-filing work (Statement of Use, Office Actions, renewals, disputes) stays with the same firm at published flat fees
LegalZoom and Trademark Engine can be useful products. They are not the same thing as hiring Markavo attorneys.
What "all-in" means here
All-in to file = service fee + government / USPTO charges required to file one class, before optional add-ons.
It does not automatically include Statement of Use, extensions, or Office Action responses. Those are where "cheap filing" often stops being cheap — so the next tables matter as much as the filing row.
Statement of Use and Office Actions (one class)
After an intent-to-use filing, you still need a Statement of Use (or extensions). If the USPTO refuses or requires a fix, you need an Office Action response. Here is how service fees compare.
Quick comparison — service fees only (one class)
| Service | Markavo | LegalZoom | Trademark Engine | USPTO fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Statement of Use | $125 attorney | $449 attorney/service | ~$129 typical listed (confirm at checkout) | $150/class |
| Substantive Office Action | $149 flat (guaranteed response) | $599–$799+ (tiered; often via Business Advisory Plan) | Starting at $599 | Usually $0 |

LegalZoom — SOU and Office Actions
Statement of Use: $449 attorney/service fee + $150 per class USPTO fee. Covers attorney preparation, specimen review, and filing. Extensions are extra (USPTO extension starts at $125/class).
Office Action responses (especially substantive) are priced in tiers. Prices can change after attorney evaluation and are generally available to Business Advisory Plan members (about $259 for 6 months or $469/year):
- Simple (e.g. disclaimer, ID amendment, substitute specimen): $199
- Moderate (e.g. ornamental refusal): $399
- Complex/substantive (e.g. descriptiveness, surname, genericness, or other legal objections excluding likelihood of confusion): $599
- Likelihood of confusion: $799 for one cited mark + $99 per additional cited mark
Their base trademark registration package covers only certain minor/procedural Office Actions (at the firm's discretion). Substantive refusals are usually a separate engagement.
Trademark Engine — SOU and Office Actions
Statement of Use: Service fees are typically listed around $129 + USPTO fees ($150/class) in pricing aggregators and older official pages. The current Statement of Use page refers to "Trademark Engine's service fee" plus the USPTO fee but often shows the fixed number only at checkout or in the account portal. Extensions are a separate service.
Office Action responses: Publicly advertised starting at $599 (plus any applicable USPTO fees). Less public tiering than LegalZoom; complex/substantive responses (likelihood of confusion, descriptiveness, etc.) are typically at or above that starting figure. Base registration packages do not include Office Action responses.
Markavo — SOU and Office Actions
Statement of Use (or a 6-month extension): $125 attorney fee + $125–$150 government fee per class (price list). USPTO Statement of Use is $150/class; a six-month extension is $125/class.
Office Action response: $149 flat for a guaranteed response — no Business Advisory Plan required to see the price, and no "starts at $599" ladder for the standard guaranteed response product.
That gap is often larger than the $50 difference between Markavo Basic and Trademark Engine Basic on day one.
Filing line-item notes (fair and sourced)
Trademark Engine
Packages start at $49 + applicable fees. For a standard single-class filing, TE's help center says the applicable fee is typically $450: $350 USPTO + $100 account setup. Legal work is handled through affiliated counsel (Swyft Legal). Filing is cheap; substantive Office Actions are not.
Markavo (trademark attorneys)
Attorney fee is one-time: Basic $99, Standard $149, Attorney Plus $399, each plus $450 government fees per class → Basic $549, Standard $599, Attorney Plus $849.
Every plan includes attorney preparation and filing, a direct-conflict USPTO search, and same-day status emails. Standard adds AI comprehensive search plus C&D and assignment templates; Attorney Plus adds phone consults, rush processing, and lifetime docketing. Meet the attorneys on the About page.
Fee note on the $450: USPTO's base electronic filing fee is $350 per class. Markavo charges $450 per class so counsel can use Trademark ID Manual descriptions (historically fewer refusals) and cover that attorney time.
LegalZoom
Attorney-led trademark registration: $899 + federal fees. With USPTO $350/class, all-in to file is about $1,249. Strong brand and package perks; Statement of Use and substantive Office Actions are priced separately as above.
Example: filing + one SOU + one substantive OA (one class)
Illustrative path many intent-to-use applicants hit:
| Path | File (Basic / entry) | SOU (service + USPTO) | Substantive OA (service) | Rough total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trademark Engine Basic | $499 | ~$129 + $150 ≈ $279 | from $599 | ~$1,377+ |
| Markavo Basic | $549 | $125 + $150 = $275 | $149 | ~$973 |
| LegalZoom attorney-led | $1,249 | $449 + $150 = $599 | $599–$799+ | ~$2,447–$2,647+ |
Your facts will differ (use-based filing skips SOU; not every case gets an Office Action). The point: price the refusal and the Statement of Use before you chase the $49 teaser.
Who each option fits
- Trademark Engine Basic — Lowest all-in to file if you want the cheapest online path and accept "applicable fee" charges plus separate SOU/OA pricing that often starts much higher later.
- Markavo attorneys — Best when you want to hire trademark counsel you can read about on the About page, a clear all-in filing number, and flat $125 SOU / $149 Office Action fees — not a filing-service funnel.
- LegalZoom — Best if you want the large marketplace brand and will pay more for filing, SOU ($449), and tiered OA responses (often behind a Business Advisory Plan).
FAQ
What is the cheapest trademark registration for one U.S. class right now? Among these three, Trademark Engine Basic at about $499 all-in to file. Markavo Basic is $549. LegalZoom attorney-led is about $1,249. After one SOU and one substantive Office Action, Markavo is often the lowest total of the three.
Is Markavo a trademark filing service? No. Markavo is a trademark law firm. You work with licensed attorneys listed on the About page.
Why doesn't Markavo advertise $49? Because the useful number is what you pay to get filed by counsel, plus what you will pay if the USPTO asks for more. Markavo publishes attorney fee + government fee up front.
Is the USPTO fee always $350? Base electronic fee is $350 per class if the application meets USPTO requirements. Incomplete info and free-form IDs add surcharges. Markavo's $450 government line is its billed amount per class for the filing path it uses.
Bottom line
For cheapest trademark registration on a one-class U.S. filing in November 2026: Trademark Engine Basic wins the race to the lowest filing total (~$499). Markavo attorneys are within $50 on Basic ($549) — and you hire counsel on the About page, not a filing portal. Once you add Statement of Use and a substantive Office Action, Markavo's $125 / $149 flats usually beat LegalZoom's $449 SOU and $599–$799+ OA tiers and Trademark Engine's $599+ OA starting price.
Compare all-in totals. Then price the Statement of Use and the refusal. That is the honest cost of a federal trademark.
